Carlos Ramirez of IGN.com has compiled a list of the 10 best doom metal bands. Ramirez writes, "Doom metal is one of metal's many offshoots and it hasn't ever achieved the kind of commercial or even, critical praise that a lot of the lesser interesting ones have. The bands within this smaller scene bow to the altar of Tony Iommi and BLACK SABBATH. Some just go out and outright ape every characteristic of their sound while most simply focus on the slower paced, death-marches the band showcased on songs like 'Black Sabbath' and the funeral opening of 'War Pigs'
"We've out together a list of the ten best bands in doom-metal history. We wanted the list to reflect the scene's rich diversity so we tried to pick bands from every stylistic pocket of that world. You'll see BLACK SABBATH referenced a lot throughout the picks but even the bands would admit they wouldn't play the way they play if it weren't for Osbourne, Iommi, Butler, and Ward."
