We'd like to express our appreciation and gratitude to the many people who have written us to express their support and outrage over Nike's misappropriation of the Minor Threat Imagery for their skateboarding demo. We would also like to acknowledge the people at Nike skateboarding for their apology and prompt removal of all offending posters and web-ads. The members of Minor Threat continue to work on a creative resolution to this matter and will have more to say when an agreement is finalized. "After seven years, hundreds of shows, thousands of miles, 46 states, four continents, three albums, only one flat-tire and countless nicknames for (roadie/photographer) Shawn Brackbill, Q and Not U is disbanding."-- This from the Q and Not U website. "Banned in DC: Photos and Anecdotes From The DC Punk Underground (79-85)" will be reprinted and re-released in the early fall 05. The book was first released by collaborators Cynthia Connolly, Leslie Clague and Sharon Cheslow in 1988. The concept behind "Banned in DC" was to compile photographs and anecdotes as a means to tell the story of the early punk scene in Washington DC without imposing the kind of bias that narratives often fall victim to. The book was an immediate success and has seen 5 different printings and spawned countless like-minded publications around the world. However, the switch at most presses from analog to digital printing technology has made the printing more and more expensive and unfortunately this will likely be the last edition of the book. The Dischord catalog is available now from the microsoft website; http://beta.music.msn.com as well as from iTunes and http://www.downloadpunk.com. The latter two sites are in the process of posting singles by Fidelity Jones, Jawbox, Shudder to Think and Q and Not U, previously available only on 7". Tickets to the Lovitt 10th Anniversary Show at the Black Cat in Washington, D.C., are on sale now. You can purchase tickets (which is recommended for people coming from out of town) by going to the Black Cat's website (www.blackcatdc.com). Katy and Andrea are not sure of the exact future of Del Cielo but they plan on playing with someone new and seeing what happens. Katy Otto and Basla Andolsun (both from Del Cielo) have recruited the help of fellow musicians and artists to organize a benefit concert and EBAY auction in an effort to raise money for the Whitman Walker Clinic. Whitman-Walker was chartered in 1978 and has become the largest provider of HIV/AIDS services in the Washington DC area. The clinic announced cutbacks including the closure of its Northern Virginia facilities due to flat government funding and a decrease in private donations. The benefit concert will be held at Cafe Mawonaj (624 T St. NW) on August 26th and will feature: Mass Movement of the Moth, Pash, and Son of Nun. The online art auction to be held over EBAY from August 26th through September 8th (Type in Whitman Walker Benefit in the ebay search function to find the auction). Some of the many items to be auctioned include an original hand-drawn, lettered, and painted poster by Chuck Sperry for Bad Religion with autographs of Sperry and band member Brian Baker, original Fugazi poster art signed by guitarist/singer, Ian MacKaye, and artwork by Heather Hannoura, best known for her work on Alkaline Trio album covers.
