Colorado's ALLEGAEON (pronounced: uh-lee-juhn) has joined forces with Metal Blade Records! Formed in early-summer 2008, with the release of their self-titled EP immediately following, ALLEGAEON has quickly spread their brand extreme metal locally, nationally and internationally, with many accolades from fans. Their 2008 EP was produced by local studio magic man Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Martriden, Cobalt). With only 4 songs, ALLEGAEON managed to captivate an entire new legion of dedicated supporters worldwide and with a live show that is as engaging as any, are sure to win over many more fans to come. |

Maybe it's the lilting Jack Bruce-isms that Josh Homme busts out in "Scumbag Blues" and the chorus of "Elephants", but listening to THEM CROOKED VULTURES, I'm thinking more of CREAM than of John Paul Jones's alma mater LED ZEPPELIN. Sure, there's all kinds of "In Through the Out Door" cues (the organ on "Reptiles", the stomping drive of "Elephants"), but maybe the overall impact of this surprisingly kickass album comes from that indefinable slithery oomph that only the best rock and roll power trios seem able to muster. And I wouldn't wanna go out on too big of a limb of hyperbole and call THEM CROOKED VULTURES the best example of the form since CREAM -- that'd be ridiculous, right? But I gotta tell you, it's been a while since a heavy rock record (one that the world at large notices, no less) has come down the pike with so much prowess, power and sheer exuberance. |

Every time KATATONIA has graced us with one of their more recent albums, we've all gushed about how it's the most lush and realized version yet of their bleak, lonely vision, and how it's going to be so impossible to top it next time they drag their maundering carcasses back into the studio. You'd think we'd have learned by now. |

Whereas most rock and roll bands take the end of year holidays off for a breather, December will indeed be a busy month for Maryland rockers CLUTCH. Not only will the veteran foursome end the calendar year with FIVE high-profile concerts to be filmed for their forthcoming DVD, they will celebrate the release of FOUR projects, which, in essence, have been a long time coming! |
