JAMES HETFIELD wants to protect his property, but his neighbors aren't happy about it. The METALLICA guitarist owns two parcels of land in the wealthy San Francisco suburb of Marin County. One of them, purchased in 2002, includes a "fire road" that the previous owners allowed people to use to access public hiking trails. But according to the website San Francisco Gate, Hetfield recently put up a barbed wire fence to keep the public off the trail. One of his 75-year-old neighbors, who has used the trail since the 1960s, calls the move, quote, "a slap in the face to the community." A county supervisor tells the paper it's an example of new landowners being unaware of the local tradition of granting public access to private property. Hetfield's reps reportedly told county officials the fence was erected in response to vandalism on the property. When contacted by ABC News, his management company had no comment on the story. source abc radio network

Guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein — who is a member of CROWBAR, DOWN and KINGDOM OF SORROW — has issued the following update: "Just wanted to issue an update on the status of the DOWN and KINGDOM OF SORROW touring. Obviously my commitment is to DOWN and I cannot wait for these Australian and Japanese dates as well as the METALLICA shows in the U.S. [starting on October 21 and concluding on November 23]. I am beyond honored and excited! Since KINGDOM OF SORROW has been confirmed on the GWAR tour [during October/November] for a while, I am insisting that they find a fill-in for me and do the tour but I will try and make as many shows as humanly possible. It looks likely that I will be able to finish the last few weeks of the tour with them."

By CARRIE ANTLFINGER, Associated Press Writer Tue Aug 12, 10:51 AM ET ELKHORN, Wis. - When Tallan "T-Man" Latz was 5, he saw Joe Satriani playing guitar on TV. "I turned around to my dad and said, 'That's exactly what I want to do.'" ADVERTISEMENT Three years and countless hours of practicing later, 8-year-old Tallan is a blues guitar prodigy. He's played in bars and clubs, including the House of Blues in Chicago, and even jammed with Les Paul and Jackson Browne. He has a summer of festivals scheduled and has drawn interest from venues worldwide. And what, you might ask, would a kid not even in the third grade have the blues about? The state of Wisconsin for one, and some possibly jealous older musicians for another.
