Brutal death metallers REPULSIVE DISSECTION are currently in the process of recording their debut album, "Cut Open The Aberration", for an early 2009 release. According to a press release, "The band combine technical death metal composition and precision musicianship with a brutal delivery and are unique in the fact that all members hail from different parts of the world and will record their sections independent of each other. The lineup consists of Yura Kowalchuk from Ukraine on guitars (also in INTOXICATED); Viktor Prokofjevs from Latvia on bass (now living in Japan and playing with VOMIT REMNANTS); Fredrik Widigs from Sweden on drum programming (also in VOMITOUS and SOILS OF FATE); and Tom Bradfield from the UK on vocals (also in TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE and the co-owner of Grindethic Records)." The CD will feature artwork by Tom Bradfield |

Hey everybody, Alex from Cannibal here checking in from Mana Studios in St. Petersburg Florida. Paul has finished all the drums tracks for our new album, and we think he did an amazing job. Things really went smoothly with the drum tracking this time, and that gave us a little extra time for Paul to get creative with some of the drum parts. Everything is still fast and brutal as you'd expect, but there are a few different rhythmic ideas happening that we think our fans will appreciate. |

METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD: 'I'd Rather Have Eight Powerful Songs Than 14 So-So Songs' |

Guitar World magazine recently asked METALLICA guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield how the band's songwriting has evolved from the "black album" on. "On the 'black album' we learned how to add muscle to our sound," Hetfield replied. "On 'Load' and 'Reload' I learned that when you write too many songs, your focus gets watery; it gets diluted. I hate that part of us. We know how to take an okay song and make it good. But the question lately has been, 'Do we have the discipline to dismiss an average song and say it's not on the record? Do we know when something is not good enough?'"
He continued, "We used to have that discipline early on. And I attribute that to having blinders on — that fuckin' attitude that says, 'Fuck that, it's not heavy enough to put on the album.' In the Nineties we tried to embrace everything and [producer] Bob Rock was good at helping us do that. Each time we did, we opened our eyes a little more, but the discipline kind of went away. We became craftsmen instead of destructors. So from 'Load' and 'Reload', what I learned is that I can't spread it out over 40 songs. I just can't. I'd rather have eight powerful songs than 14 so-so songs." |
